Nina Weymann
Nina Weymann (she/her) is a professional photographer who also produces artistic works to reflect on the medium she works with.
My practice grows from reportage photography but is driven by a broader curiosity about the technical and cultural conditions that shape images. I work from a position of productive doubt, using photography both as a documentary tool and as a subject of inquiry. This ongoing reflection on the medium’s mechanisms, histories, and technologies drives my (studio-)work.

My work has its origins in reportage photography, but is equally influenced by an interest in the social and cultural conditions under which images are created and circulated. Out of a constant doubt about my own medium, I develop projects that question the mechanisms of photographic image production and use.
In Searching for the Old Bearded Fisherman, I explore the narrative structures and expectations inherent in documentary images. Chinatownvertical combines photographic observations with reflections on the linguistic and cultural perspectives that shape our perception of the world.
During my master’s thesis, I intensively studied the technology and history of photography. This resulted in experimental works that examine the camera as a tool and the photographic trace as an imprint and index. Thus, my work always moves between a documentary gaze and critical reflection on the practice of photography itself.
