Chinatownvertical
Series of 11 vertical panoramic photographs
2011

How do different cultural backgrounds change the way we preceive the world?
The photos are taken in ‘Chinatowns’ of western metropolises (New York, Paris and London). Living quarters where Eastern and Western cultures meet – through migration and also through me as a viewer.
With the choice of a panoramic camera (Lomo Horizon Perfekt), which I used vertically instead of horizontally, I forced myself to an unfamiliar point of view but also resemble the traditional Chinese writing from top to bottom.
Before this photo project I had spend two semesters learning mandarin and traveled China for a month.
